Merry Christmas! I had a nice, lazy morning, making breakfast (!!), video chatting again with my family, and listening to Christmas music. At some point, we walked down the hill to check out boat rides at the port (too intimidating…) and go to Starbucks for a gingerbread cookie and a mint hot chocolate (chocolate caliente con menthe!). We wandered back to our Airbnb, where we spent the afternoon sitting on our roof deck, eating cheese and crackers, listening to Christmas music, reading Harry Potter, admiring the view, and drinking Christmas tea and then wine. It was muuuuuch lazier than my usual vacation MO, but it was also a really nice, quiet Christmas. We went to dinner with our Australian friends, on the deck of the restaurant Fauna, that overlooked the port of Valparaíso. We were treated to a beautiful sunset over the city and the water, and I even got a little cola de mono (a famed Chilean Christmas drink I kept reading about before we went, but that we couldn’t really find anywhere – apparently it’s really something that is made and drank at home, not out).
